When a global war nearly decimated humankind, an evil military organization called Oniken takes advantage of the situation to dominate and oppress the few remaining survivors. Even though any resistance to this organization seemed hopeless, a small rebel movement organizes strikes against Oniken. One day, a ninja mercenary named Zaku offers his services to the resistance for unknown reasons. His moves are lethal and now he is the resistance's only hope. Oniken is an action platform game highly inspired by the 1980's, its games and its movies. You can see this not only in the graphics and sound design, but also in Oniken's story and difficulty. Oniken is a platform action game honoring the 8-bit era of the 80s and 90s. You become Zaku, a ninja mercenary hired by the resistance to fight an evil terrorist organization called Oniken. The whole universe of the game is reminiscent of the 8-bit era, with old-school script, graphics and soundtrack. The Oniken gameplay is simple, but in hardcore mode, it can be extremely difficult.
Oniken is a side-scrolling action platform video game developed and published by independent Brazilian studio Joymasher. The game has an 8-bit style and follows a classic slasher gameplay formula similar to Strider, Ninja Gaiden and Shatterhand. The objective in the game is to get to the end of each level and beat the boss for the level. There are six levels in the game and an extra mission with an additional character in Contra gameplay style after you beat the game.

As tough as it may sound, the game does help you out along the way. There are crates and barrels that you can destroy which will yield you temporary sword upgrades, grenades, or replenish some health. All of which will come quite in handy as you traverse the levels and end up in the boss and mini-boss fights.
Odallus: The Dark Call is a 2015 action-adventure platform game in the vein of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, developed by Brazilian indie studio Joymasher. The game was originally released for Microsoft Windows, and was later released for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Odallus was developed by JoyMasher, a Brazilian developer who had previously released Oniken. The game was part-funded through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, raising $7,533 towards its development costs in August 2013.[3] The game was initially released on July 15, 2015 for Microsoft Windows and was updated in November 2015 to include a more difficult "Veteran Mode" which included new enemy types.[4][5] Versions for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One were released on February 8, 2019, and December 23, 2019, respectively.[6][7] The game was released for PlayStation 4 in North America on March 24, 2020 and in Europe the following day on March 25, 2020.[8]
Odallus is an action-adventure platform game, which is highly reminiscent of early NES platform games, most notably of the Castlevania franchise and Metroid. The player controls Haggis, who can run, jump, and use his weapon, initially a weak sword. With the game having several role-playing elements, Haggis can upgrade his equipment and abilities by finding items hidden throughout the various levels. He can then revisit previous levels to overcome obstacles and find additional secrets. Each level contains a boss that becomes easier to reach when the player uncovers secret shortcuts. Haggis can also acquire subweapons such as axes, torches, etc., which have a limited number of uses, indicated in the game's HUD.
Destructoid gave the game 9/10, saying, "Odallus: The Dark Call is a worthy addition to any metroidvania fan's library and is worth the asking price.".[2] USgamer also recommended the game.[1] Worthplaying scored Odallus 9/10 and concluded, "Fans who adore adventure games of [the classic] console era should definitely grab Odallus."[10] The game received an 8/10 from CGMagazine, who called it "frustrating at times, thanks to the level of difficulty", but nevertheless recommended the game.[11] M! Games gave the Nintendo Switch version a score of 74 out of 100, calling it a fine homage to games such as The Legendary Axe and Castlevania.[12] Italian magazine The Games Machine gave it a score of 4/5.[13]
